Does someone know a university in the United States without tuition fees?

Answer
For most, if not all of the schools in the lists in the links I give below, a student will still need money for housing/meals (room and board), books/class supplies, transportation, all your on-going personal expenses.

Any student who is not a US citizen or permanent resident (green card holder), meaning an International Student, would also need to obtain a US Student Visa and provide written documentation that he/she has enough money to pay for his/her housing, meals, books/class suplies, and personal expenses during the full time he/she would be living in the USA and enrolled in the school.

Just diagnosed with Hodgkinâs lymphoma?

Nimi

I was just diagnosed with Hodgkinâs lymphoma i really dont know what it is my mom told me that tommorow i have to be hospitalized. What is Hodgkinâs lymphoma? is it cancer? can i die? im 14 and really scared that i will die and scared from the hospital.

Answer
It's terrifying, disorientating, and shocking when you're diagnosed with cancer, so it's very understandable that you're scared. Fortunately Hodgkin's Lymphoma is highly treatable, and with proper treatment you have an excellent probability of becoming healthy again. By this time next year HL will hopefully be behind you.

Even though you're 14 you'll most likely be treated by a pediatric oncologist. I was diagnosed with HL at age 16 and was treated at Mattel's Children Hospital at UCLA and then have had follow-up care at Lucile Packard at Stanford. If you happen to be in LA or Palo Alto I totally recommend them. Stanford's LPCH has a very good explanation of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, so rather than copying and pasting it all here I'll just give you the link: http://www.lpch.org/DiseaseHealthInfo/HealthLibrary/oncology/hodgkns.html

Your oncologist will explain to you and your parents your stage (1-4, A or B), and your ideal treatment plan. In the US most people with Hodgkin's Lymphoma are treated with ABVD chemo. This chemotherapy is usually given in cycles on an outpatient basis. The number of cycles you will need depends on your staging. Each cycle consists of two treatments that are spaced a couple of weeks apart. You go into the hospital in the morning and they do some tests and then set you up with the chemo, and then you're there for the treatment for a few hours. You go home to sleep, and they give you medicines to take to help with any side effects you might experience. The nurses do their best to make you as comfortable as possible during chemo, and at most hospitals there are outlets nearby for you to plug in your laptop and other devices. You can watch a dvd on your laptop, listen to music, do school work, play around online, or just sleep. Sometimes the chemo can give your mouth a metallic burning sensation, so sucking on something cold might help. I brought in bags of frozen pineapple chunks and sucked on them. You probably won't have to sleep overnight at the hospital that often. There are some procedures that require a short stay, but your doctor can discuss them with you. ABVD usually does cause people to lose their hair, but that's not always the case. I lost about a quarter of my hair, and what was left became less lustrous and more fragile, but I was never bald. I just cut several inches off the back to lessen the weight and got layers to make it look fuller.

At most hospitals minors are assigned a pediatric oncology social worker who will help you and your family with things like school. You might be able to go to school, and you might have to take some online classes instead. Some social workers will even go to your school for you if you wish and talk to the kids in your classes so they'll understand what Hodgkin's Lymphoma is and how they can be a good friend to you. Some kids with cancer benefit from talking to a therapist or a psychiatrist about their feelings, and your doctor or your social worker will probably be able to make some referrals for you. There are also other programs that might be helpful, like art or music therapy.

I have a collection of sites that have been useful to me on a blog if you'd like to check them out. Just click on anything on the list and the site will pop up. Several people on YouTube have detailed their experiences with Hodgkin's and you might watching their videos to be informative. http://thesoultodare.blogspot.com/2012/11/resources-for-those-with-cancer.html

Best wishes! I had a hard time with HL, but I'm now a happy, healthy college student, and I'm dancer and marathon runner.
