I am a college student and I have a 2 years old lenovo laptop. But I really want a macbook pro for mac programming. I told about this to may parents but they are not convinced. Please help.

Say that you want to program Objective C program (for example iPhone apps) which you can only do that if you use Mac OS X. Essentially you have to own Apple computers (in this case Macbook Pro).

I'm looking at getting a laptop for college and I need to know what a good brand of laptop is and also which model. I also don't want to pay an outrageous price for one.

It will depend on what you want to do with your laptop, If not taking any engineering courses where you will need to run CAD/CAM software then you can use any computer with an Intel Core i3 processor in it. If planning on taking any engineering courses, you would need at least an Intel Core i5. The alternative to the Intel Core i processors would be the new AMD A-series processors, these processors have much better graphics than the Intel processors. So, if you plan on doing much with video, or you plan on being able to play any games, you would want the A-series. The better names in laptops for overall quality and reliability would be ASUS, Samsung, and Lenovo. Here are a few to look at available at Best Buy.
