I'm going to be getting a new laptop for college in six months and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to buy.

I'm going to need one that's good at:
staying on for a long period of time.
hopefully already has Microsoft office installed (and not a trial version).
Windows 7
gaming (sims)

Thanks!!

Answer
There are two that I would recommend for you. Both of these models are lightweight enough to carry to class, powerful enough to run The Sims 3 and other light games, and have the best battery life out there. They also have Windows 7.

The first is the Sony Y series. They offer a standard model and one with two batteries that gets up to 15 hours of battery life.
The second is the Asus UL30A. It is thin and light and offers 10 hours of battery life. The UL30VT has better gaming ability.

You won't find many computers, if any at all, that already have Microsoft Office on them. You can buy a very cheap student version directly from Microsoft, just search for the program The Ultimate Steal.

What is the best laptop for a college student and why?

I just started my 2nd semester at UCLA and still don't own a laptop. What do you think is the best laptop for a college student and why? PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THOUGH!! :)

FYI:
I have about $2,000 in student aid money left so choosing wouldn't be a problem. I just don't know if I should waste a lot of that money on a laptop....

Answer
One combination to consider is to have a fast desktop with a large monitor in your dorm room, and carry around an 11.6" netbook for classes (10.1" netbook screen is too small).
