Q. My son is in the 7th grade and he needs a computer desperately. He has missed essays and other important things and i am tired of going to the library. I just need a affordable laptop with Microsoft word.

Usually laptops come with a 30, 60, 90 day free trial of Office and if you want to purchase it, you can find it for $100-$125 for the Home and Student edition. In terms of what brand to buy, it really doesn't matter. People have bad experiences with them all.
One brand I will recommend that has become very popular the past couple years is Asus, which is sold at BestBuy stores. A very good website that you can check out as well is Newegg.com. Best laptop for a college student on a budget?

Preferably under $400
Mostly needed for internet, Office, etc.
Nothing too fancy
Light, portable, on the smaller side
Decent battery life
Plenty of storage as to not get bogged down by loads of pictures and music
And just an overall good computer that will last me quite a few years.
I'm having a hard time deciding because there are so many options out there. It would be greatly appreciated to hear from real owners of similar laptops to see a few of the best options out there. Also, if there are any that I should definitely stay away from, feel free to let me know. Lots of details would also be wonderful. Thank you!

Toshiba and Lenovo make some good laptops. This sis a prime time to buy one honestly or in August for back to school. I had an acer and it was okay but it honestly didn't hold up too well
