best student laptop for the money image
My laptop's screwed up pretty badly, so that I can't bring my laptop to studio. I can, however, use it as a desktop when it's connected to an external monitor. Because a lot of work happens outside my apartment and inside a studio, should I hope that I can do all my work in my apartment, or should I spend money on another laptop? Thanks...money is short for me.

I am a senior at SJSU, and I never had to take my laptop to school except for one class, which was computer programming.
My laptop is heavy and a bit screwy too. Therefore, I've always done things the old way: writing notes instead of typing them, reading textbooks instead of ebooks, and waiting to get home to do any computer work. And this way works just fine for me. College students never brought laptops to school before, right?
If you absolutely need a computer on campus, most schools have computer labs that you can use.

What Dell laptop is the best for a student?

As a student what laptop would serve me the best? The Dell XPS 13, Dell XPS 16, or Dell Studio 15?

I agree with the XPS13 if it truly is for 'school' and only 'school.' But the reality of the situation is that you will probably use it all the time to message your skank college girlfriend with crummy apps like AOL messenger "LOL what are you doing" "LOL I'm studying LOL LOL" Then there are all the illegal mp3s and movies you'll want to see and listen to. And if you are doing any kind of plagiarism from wikipedia while writing a paper the 13" inch screen is going to really put a cramp in your situation.
Dell is a great brand to buy, I rip apart laptops all day long and they are in general a quality machine. I see most NEW Dells because the Dell warranty service is so awful they are begging to pay for good service. So, that much is true. But, most NEW Dells don't have problems. Say a small prayer tonight for the few poor souls that are screwed and that you will not become one of them.
My advice, if it is going to be a legitimate school machine. Get a net book, you will save hundreds of dollars you can spend on women and beer.
If you are trying to get a desktop replacement, go with the bigger screen. That way you can have wikipedia open in one window and cut and paste it over to your cracked copy of Office XP in a window right next to it. You won't have any money left over for women and beer, but you'll have a plenty big screen for porn to get you through.
