What type of laptop would you recommend students that are majoring you architecture?

Eric

What type of laptop would you recommend for students that are majoring you architecture?

Answer
Depends.

If they're doing serious design, they're probably going to have nice desktops with high resolution monitors at school anyway.

If you have a bottomless wallet, the 15" and 17" macbooks (not the 13" ones) are really nice.

Otherwise, look for something with DEDICATED graphics (that is, dedicated, not shared, graphic memory, which will improve performance with visual architectural programs) and an i3, i5, or llano proccesor (Like the A8-3500M). 3gb of RAM is good, 4gb is ideal, anything more is a waste.

I would like to buy a new laptop for college. My current laptop is a bulky Toshiba, and I would like the portability of a slim notebook or ultrabook. Will I be compromising durability?? My other choice is the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13... Not sure I REALLY need the Lenovo (since I really only need my computer for basic tasks) but the laptop-tablet combo is very enticing!

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Answer
Of the ones you mentioned I would go with ASUS. Just keep in mind tho that you are buying a Ultrabook. Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by authorized service centers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. That means if the battery or hard drive has a problem, you will not be getting it fixed locally or quickly. Then you will have to consider the cost. I have seen some ultrabooks battery going for $200 not counting labor.

They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

ASUS has the best warranty when it comes to laptops and some of them even come with a 1 Year Accidental Damage which would be great for a college student.

Brand buying advise to help you decide.

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

What is the best laptop for online college students?

Q. I don't need anything for gaming and stuff like that, I just need to know what laptop is going to be the fastest most efficient and has the longest life?
Thank you
((((MM))))) so great to see you =D

Answer
I think one of the main things to consider when buying a computer is the processor, the type of processor you have impacts speed and your ability to do more than one task at a time. ( And so does memory, but unlike memory processors can be expensive to upgrade ) Since processors can be so expensive to upgrade, I would recommend buying a computer with the fastest processor that is within reason. ( at some point the price begins to get significantly higher without as much increase in speed )

Memory ( RAM ) is also important for the speed of the computer, it is easier to upgrade later than other things, but I would recommend starting at 3 GB of RAM, but 4 GB would be better.

I'm not sure why so many people are down on Windows Vista, I haven't had much trouble with it, and I can't think of anything that I have had trouble with that hasn't been resolved.

I found a review from Cnet.com that list retail laptops and rates them, if you are considering buying from retail stores this may be helpful.

http://news.cnet.com/back-to-school/pc-reviews/?tag=centerColumnArea1.1

I am partial to Dell, they often have good prices on computers and you can specify what you want, so you can upgrade the processor and memory, and if you buy a computer with a faster processor I believe it will increase the time that it is serviceable to you. ( I mean it won't become " outdated " as quickly. ) You can check out Dell's website to look around:

http://www.dell.com/

I hope that this is helpful, and I hope you find the laptop that you are looking for and that suits all your needs.

sincerely,
your friend, andrew

Q. Asked a question similar to this before but I'm still having trouble deciding on which internet provider to use. Need something that's gonna support 3 laptops on wireless. Would prefer unlimited usage or a usage that is not likely to be reached monthly anyway.

Obviously as students we're looking for a good price but its hard to reognise one when you're not sure what you're getting or what you need.

Both of these computers are about the same price $2014 for the iMac and $2024 for the MacBook Pro. This is with the student discount and the free iPod and Printer. The MacBook Pro has a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256 MB. The iMac has the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3
Screw PC I don't care how cheap they are! PC's cost less because the are P.ieces of C.rap!!! Vista blows and I hate their security features. They are just waiting to be infected with viruses. You won't convince me otherwise so you're wasting your time!!
identity haha what kind of bogus name is that? if pcs are so great then why are macs selling more and more every quarter than PC? And how the hell do a couple of sentences show "how much i know about computers"?! i have My CCNA through Cisco Networking which is a two year course in its self i've spent enough time on a pc to know how much they suck. and even XP isn't that great and there's no way it "runs circles around OSX" HAHA dude ur funny!

Answer
It depends what you want to use it for if you want to use it in class for notes and/or you want to play some medium complex games then MacBook pro but if you dont want to use it in class then iMac.
(I do have the imac and its great)
ps.if you want a good laptop get the MacBook 13 incs 2,4 ghz,2 gb ram,250 hard drive.

I'm hoping to stay under 400 but if it's worth it, 500 at most.
Also, what brands to stay away from and I prefer to have a 15" or so.

Answer
While this laptop will be in the upper range of your budget, I think it's well worth it. I recently bought a Gateway (a brand that's always treated me well and generally has great value for the price spent). Anyway, here it is: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+with+AMD+Athlon%26%23153%3B+II+X2+Dual-Core+Processor+-+Midnight+Blue/9695339.p?id=1218150605281&skuId=9695339&st=Laptops_Netbooks_Clearance_20100702&cp=1&lp=6

The reason that this particular laptop grabbed my attention was that it has a lot of RAM (4GB) and a pretty fast processor (2 GHz Dual-Core), in terms of laptops. Also, the monitor is great; 15.6" still seems like a nice, large size to the eyes, but is still small enough for easy storage; the monitor is also an LED monitor, which is the best type in viewing angles, lifespan/durability, and reducing eyestrain. The final reason was obviously the price; I've haven't seen too many laptops in this price range before that weren't on the junkier side, but this one is actually good quality.

Unfortunately, though, Best Buy hasn't seemed to have this laptop in stock for a while, so you may have to look for it at other websites or retailers. On a side note, this laptop also comes in Cherry Red; just letting you know that Midnight Blue isn't the only color.

In terms of brands to avoid, the first one I would suggest is Apple; besides having an advantage in battery life, the MacBook is basically just a really expensive laptop. Disappointingly few programs run on Mac OS X as well. I would also advise against many of HP's laptops, unless you're looking to get a really expensive one. HP's cheaper laptops are typically rather flimsy, especially the monitors.

I am going to be a college student in the fall majoring in Environmental science and have no idea what laptop to get. I am completely clueless about PC's. I want a PC that is under 500$ has a webcam. Pretty much I aam only using it to do papers and read my email. Plus save my around 2000 itunes songs. Please help!
If you can please provide a specific PC model i can check out. No IPAD!

Answer
I would have to go with the iPad you can type your papers using the pages app by Apple, HD Video for crystal clear video calls through Skype, you can even buy a keyboard for it if you want to type on a real keyboard, and with iOS 5 you don't even need a computer to set it up, It also includes an HD screen and starts at 499

The only computers that are under 500 are netbooks. If a regular computer is don't expect it to last long, netbooks have crappy proccesors little ram, and really small screens. a computer under 500 won't last to long traveling across campus with all the hard drive shaking, skypeing on a netbook will be terrible because the crappy processor. but if you only need to read emails and type, a netbook may work. Because you are in college though I'm sure you will get interested in computer games, and watching movies on your laptop, which a netbook is not good for,

http://www.apple.com/macbookair/?cid=wwa-naus-seg-mac10-028&cp=wwa-seg-mac10-notebook&sr=sem

this is a solid computer even though it goes over your budget it is well worth the money and you won't break the hard drive in it due to travel across campus because there is no hard drive, there is a SSD drive which you can shake around all you want and it won't break.

here is another laptop with good ratings its the only laptop that toshiba has that is under 500 it may get the job done i would consider a ram upgrade, it is for kids so it has kid friendly stuff preinstalled you can uninstall that though.

is there really nooo difference between a laptop and a notebook?

I know a lotta people say there isn't
but there has to be something? like hard drive gb, RAM something! size?

well im going to college soon and I'm just trying to figure out which would be better for a college student? and if you have any suggestions on what you would buy, please feel free to say them, a specific laptop/notebook something

please and thank you

I'm a Junior in HS and I'm quite terrible at taking notes in class with a pen and paper. I'm a great at typing and can look away from the keyboard while I type. I know you can take a laptop to college classes, or at least most classes. I figure you can't take notes on a tablet or laptop in science or math. But what classes allow it and make use of a laptop?

Also, does anyone use a voice memo app on their phone to record the lecture for later? What about setting your phone on some sort of dock to video record the lecture?

Also, could you give me any note taking strategies besides what I asked earlier?

Answer
I never take notes on a laptop.Actually such electronic devices are prohibited in many if not most college course, with the exception of those that actually pertain to computing.
If I could have brought my laptop to my physics calls for example, it would have only been an inconvenience since almost everything of value is shown on the board. You really can't take meaningful notes for math and science classes, or even any other class for that matter. You will be spending you time trying to copy everything down in a meaningful manner instead of actually listening the the professor's explanation of what is written down.
You could use your laptop to do any online homework between actual classes.
As a computer science major, I only use my laptop for actual computer classes where we may do in-class projects. I just prefer to do them on my laptop instead of the school's

Im looking for a laptop for college and there are a lot to choose from. I want one that holds a lot i take alot of pictures so i need the space but i also need it for assignments too please help

Answer
Don't get a Mac, because of corporate greed by the company they limit what you can actually do in the computer greatly. Don't buy a Dell, gateway because they are the worst manufacturers out there.

I actually just bought a laptop after over 10 days of looking and found an a pretty cool deal. Theres a seller on Amazon called "Electronic Mind" that is selling some really powerful Acer Aspires way below retail value and has the lowest price on Amazon all together.

Here is the link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YD9K1K?ie=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YD9K1K?ie=UTF8&seller=A2Q11VP7A3L0BR&sn=Electronic%20Mind

I dont know how they can sell them so cheap but I have had mine now for 2 weeks and I am very happy with my brand new laptop.

With Acer Aspire you cant go wrong. The laptop is wicked, I am running very strenuous programs on it such as music production software and hardcore games and it can take anything I throw at it

I honestly think this is your best choice!!!

I am going to college in a few months and I will be a freshman. I am bored and so I decided to start making a list of things I need to bring/buy to take with me to college for my dorm room/classes/etc. Any ideas on things to have would be great. thanks!

Answer
Essentials for Daily Living:
Pillows, Pillow Cases, Bed Sheets (Twin or Twin Extra Long if your dorm has extra long beds), Mattress Pad, Clothes Hamper, Clothes Basket, Laundry Detergent, Fabric Softener, Clothes Hangers, Your Clothes, Table/Desk Top Ironing Board, Iron, Over the Door Full Length Mirror, Over the Door Shoe Rack, Shower Tote/Caddy, Shower Shoes (an absolute must have), Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Soap, Razor, Shaving Gel, Body Lotion, Wash Cloths, Hand Towels, Body Towels, Bath Robe (an absolute must have), Toothbrush, Toothbrush Holder, Mouth Wash, Blow Dryer, Hair Spray (if you use it), Hair Accessories (if you use them), Perfume (if you use it), Make-up (if you use it), Back Support Pillow (for sitting up and reading or viewing television in bed), Garbage Can, Garbage Bags, Alarm Clock, Desk Lamp, First Aid Kit that Includes: Band-Aids, Ace Bandage, Small Packets of Tylenol, Benadryl, and Icy Hot, Small Bottle of Nyquil, Cough Drops, Ice Pack.

Ideals for Daily Living:
Mini-Fridge and Microwave (Can be purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond), Floor Lamp, Television, Stereo/Radio with CD Player, DVD Player, DVDs, CDs, Ipod or MP3 Player, Small Vacuum or Dust Buster, Coffee Pot, Bottled Water and other Beverages, Easy to Microwave Foods, Plastic Washable/Reusable Plates, Bowls, Cups, Forks, Knives and Spoons.

Essentials for Academics:
Pencils, Pens, Highlighters, White-Out Pen, Mini Stapler and Staples, Pencil Cap Erasers, Paper Clips, Index Cards (work well for flashcards and test study questions and answers), Post-It Notes, Folders with Pockets and Prongs, 3 Ring Binder (at least one), Loose Leaf Paper (for the binder), Notebooks, Graphing Calculator, Dictionary, Thesaurus, Textbooks (You'd be surprised at how many students fail to buy the books and then wonder why they fail the course!), Daily Planner/Assignment Book, Large Desk Calendar, Dry Erase Board and Dry Erase Pens.

Ideals for Academics:
Laptop Computer, USB Cord (for connecting to the internet on campus), Printer/Scanner/Copier In One Unit, Printer Paper, Extra Printer Ink.

Stuff to Make the Room Pretty:
Tape (for hanging posters), Posters, Cork Board and Thumb Tacks (for hanging up pictures), Pictures of Family and Friends, Framed Pictures for the Desk

Keep in Possession at All Times:
Driver's License or State Issued ID Card, Student ID Card, Debit Card, and Minimal (no more than 20 dollars) Cash.

Have on Move In Day:
Two forms for Proof of Identification- License or State Card, and Social Security Card.

Look at Purchasing:
Renter's Insurance (Most students and parents don't think the student qualifies, but you do, because you signed a contract, which is similar to a lease and you'll be paying/renting the room for about 9 months. Get this to protect you and your belongings from fire, storms, and/or theft.)

If Your College Allows It:
Loft Your Bed! (This gives you a lot of extra space to store things, like clothing that didn't fit in the dresser drawers or closet.)

Contact your roommate to see who is bringing what when it comes to ideals for the dorm. You don't want 2 fridges and 2 microwaves and stuff like that because it will take up too much room.

What would you recomend to for me to bring to freshman year of college? and how did you prepare for college?

Bbagsies!

Well, I'm also a metro rider. I went with a used Dell D-400. Got it off ebay and it has 1G ram, decent processor, burner, case, etc. total price was $260 (including shipping). The key is that it has a 12.1 inch screen so it fits easy on the lap while riding. Also lasts about 2 hours on battery.

ps - as for HP, I did look at them as well, but they don't seem to hold up as much and the small ones are really expensive. My company has 1000's of dells in service with minimal problems.

what laptop is best for a commuting student?

I commute to school and wanted to know what is the best light weight and durable laptop for a college student. I used to have a dell inspiron and it broke down on me, and i don't really like netbooks.

Answer
Macbooks are known to be utilized by college students. They are light weight, powerful, and quite simple to use. However the pricing is the only issue.

What is better for the college student? a Netbook or a Laptop and why? I have no clue and my daughter will be going to college next year. I want something that's new but will last a couple years. Any input gratefully appreciated.

Answer
It's a though question.

Netbooks are cheap, compact and light devices, with great autonomy (5-9 hours) and powerful enough to run every day applications . They have 9-12 inch screens .

Laptops one the other hand are more powerful (can be a lot more powerful actually) and are bigger and bulkier. They also have bigger screens: 13 to 17" and even bigger

A decent netbook would cost you around $350, while a netbook, well, something between $500 to $1000 depending on what you need.

I for one followed a technical college (Computer Science) and i used a laptop, a powerful one, as i needed all the processing speed i could get for rendering software, programming, virtual machines, etc. My sister on the other hand follows Med School and she has a netbook, as it's easier for her to carry around and she doesn't need the extra power.

So if you're daughter is to follow a technical college such as i have, then you should definitely go for a laptop. If not, a netbook should to just fine. It really depends on her needs and preferences.

What specifications should be in a macbook for a college student?

College Gu

I am going to buy a mac, what memory Ram and hard drive space should I get for a macbook? I am a college student; I just want to use the laptop for school work and maybe some video. I am not a videogamer nor a professional. Please help me decide the specifications. Do you know for how long the batterie run before it has to be plug the wall?

Thank you.

Answer
I'd get 13 In. screen w/ 2 Ghz, 512 RAM, 60 GB hard drive, and a Superdrive

You can always add RAM later.

As for the battery, it really depends on how much charge is currently left on it. There are 2 ways to check this: 1. the top right cornor, look fior the battery icon/text. 2. On the bottom, there will be 5 lights, and a button, press the button, and the light will light up. the more lights, the more charge)

Answer
Acer AS5742G-6846.This is a really good PC. The keys are flat, but its not a problem for me. The keyboard is very responsive. The screen is clear and easy to read. Set-up was easy. I made a video and checked out the camera, and its quite clear. Two USB ports on the right side, one USB on the left, so lefthanded folks who want to attach a real, corded, mouse can do so. The textured plastic case is a nice touch for avoiding fingerprints.

What is the best computer that I could buy for under $600?

Brooklynne

I'd like to buy a new computer, now that I have a little bit more cash on hand. Does anyone have any suggestions of a very reliable computer that will last be a long time, has windows 7, and can process multiple things at the same time without freaking out? Under 600 would be great, although I would love a much better computer then that, I'm still a college student.

Thanks!

Answer
If you're willing to pay roughly forty dollars more:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115729

That's a great choice, first of all, because it has a Core i3, a big improvement over the Core 2 Duo series and what AMD is offering. Secondly, it has 4 GB RAM and a hard drive that should be enough. It can definitely process many programs at once, and will do pretty much anything except gaming and intensive multimedia, such as Photoshop or Final Cut. It has Windows 7 Home Premium by the way.

If you absolutely demand under $600:

The Asus is also a good laptop, though a bit weaker in processing; it'll still run multiple programs though.

What to look for in a video card?

Rick Ross

I'm getting a new computer this year for college and i want to be able to play games on it. For now, i mostly just play minecraft but i want something capable of playing more graphics intensive games if i want.. The main thing i wanted to know is what makes for a good graphics card. I'm new to graphics cards and i don't really know what the numbers are or whether they're actually good.

Also, i just ordered my hp h8 with the stock HD 7570. Does anyone know if this would be sufficient for most of my needs?

Answer
The Radeon HD 7570 (which is just a renamed 6570) you've ordered is fine for Minecraft and can play most other games on medium settings fine. It can even play games like Call of Duty Black Ops/MW2, Rift and WoW on high (but not ultra) settings, so it should meet your needs.

For graphics cards, only one thing matters- actual performance.

Many people make the mistake of trying extrapolate performance from underlying specs. The truth is, that DOESN'T WORK. Picking cards based upon things like memory bandwidth, core & memory speeds, number of processor cores, amount of VRAM (which is actually one of the LEAST important specs) is an approach that backfires more often than not.

Graphics cards are much like CPUs/processors. Checking benchmarks & test results for the various models is the only reliable method for evaluating both.

For example, if someone tells you to pick between:

a) Quad-core, 3.2 Ghz, 6MB L3 cache
b) Dual-core, 3.3 Ghz, 3MB L3 cache
c) Quad-core, 3.0 Ghz, 6MB L3 cache
d) Hexacore, 3.0 Ghz, 6MB L3 cache
e) Quad-core, 3.6 Ghz, 8MB L3 cache

Those specs alone don't provide enough information, because different CPU architectures aren't equal- some are more powerful than others. For example, choice d the 6-core processor is actually the weakest for gaming- it's a Phenom II X4 1075T. Meanwhile choice b (Core i3 2120) outperforms a (Phenom II X4 955), d, and e (FX-4100) in most games. Choice c (Core i5 2320) is the best by a substantial margin. Knowing whether a processor is a Phenom II, Core 2 Duo, first-generation Core i7 or 2nd generation Core i5 gives us a better idea about it's performance level than the amount of cache, core count, or clock speed.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-fx-8120-6100-4100_6.html#sect0

Now that's just for illustration. With graphics cards it's similar. The biggest factor in graphics card performance is the GPU core that a card is based upon, but that's not reflected by any of the numerical specs. The only place the GPU core is reflected is the card model number- a GT 610 (which is just a renamed GT 520) is weaker than a GT 620 (which is a renamed GT 430) which is weaker than a GT 640, which is weaker than a GTX 650, which is weaker than a GTX 650 Ti or GTX 560, and so on. It doesn't matter if a GT 640 comes with 2GB of video memory compared to 1GB for a GTX 560, the latter is still a much more powerful card. A GT 640 isn't even fast enough to benefit from having that much VRAM.

The passmark rankings at http://www.videocardbenchmark.net are good for finding out what general category cards fall into, but those rankings are only rough estimates- they're not good for picking between cards which are close together.

That's because Nvidia and AMD use completely different GPU designs, and modify them from generation to generation. Some designs perform really well on specific benchmark tests, others don't. Sometimes cards which score slightly higher on Passmark are actually slower in real-world games than cards with a lower Passmark score.

Ultimately what matters isn't which cards perform best on synthetic tests, but which cards perform best in actual game titles. That's why your best resource will be reviews from sites like Anandtech, Techspot, Tom's Hardware, Techpowerup, Guru3D, Xbitlabs, Bit-Tech and Hot Hardware.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2013/03/26/nvidia-geforce-gtx-650-ti-boost-2gb-review/3
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/18.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gt-640-review,3214-4.html

For laptop/mobile graphics adapters, Notebookcheck has benchmark rankings and some in-game performance:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

For desktop cards, Tom's Hardware publishes a monthly roundup of best values in every price range. It's a good jumping off point because you can see which options fit your budget and then serch out reviews/tests for those models.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html

Anandtech has a nice head-to-head comparison link here, just plug in the card models.

Good luck!

best kind of laptops for college image
Q. I'm wondering what kind of laptop is good for a college freshman? I'd prefer PC, not Mac. And I'm not going into a business major, I know sometimes they need specific types of computers to support their programs, but that's not the cases for me. I'm going into environmental engineering.
I'm looking for specific brands and such to look for

Answer
Get the cheapest machine you can get from a major manufacturer with the following stats. Core 2 duo, 2GB of RAM, 120GB HD (5400 RPM) and don't get steered into a machine w/a dedicated graphics card - they give you a lot of power you may not need but will add to the price, weight, size, heat and power consumption.

What kind of laptop should I get for college?

christine

What are some things i would want in a laptop for college? And what kinds of laptops are best (Macs or PCs) for what i need? I am considering graphic design and fashion design as majors, but I will also be taking liberal arts classes. I also want to use the laptop for things like internet, typing, music, pictures, and the usual. Any advice/suggestions?

Answer
If you are going into graphic/fashion design, you will need / want a laptop with upgraded graphics and processing power. You will likely also want a monitor with high resolution. I'd look for a laptop with:

a discrete graphics card (not Intel HD built-in graphics);
an Intel i5 or i7, or AMD A8 processor (quad core is better!); and
At least 4GB of DDR3 RAM;
laptop screen resolution higher than the standard 1366x768, like 1600x900.

Many laptops fit these criteria; your budget and taste will determine which is right for you!
A few examples (links below): Dell XPS , Asus G73 series, Lenovo ThinkPad T520 or Ideapad Y series.

Nicholas

Price range: 2000$ - 2500$
I also need to be able to use it for college. I want to be able to play pc games like world of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, fallout, skyrim, and diablo 3.

Answer
If you are going to get a laptop for playing those games make sure you squirrel some of that budget aside for a very good under laptop cooling system because that sucker is going to heat up but good. I used to play WOW on a pretty good laptop and my thighs would be red and soaked after a few hours of play. My suggestion would be to get a really good gaming desktop because with that budget you should be able to get a whopper of a machine.

what it is the difference between netbook and laptop?

LSA

i am going to college so i would like to know if a netbook would be better for me or a laptop

Answer
the netbooks are smaller in size..usually 9-10 inch screens...also, most netbooks have no optical drive,,dvd drive. netbooks are less powerful usually that laptops....one big plus-they are very mobile and have the basic functions of a laptop-

The Netbook is generally a stripped down, small laptop with a less than a 10â screen, designed primarily for the mobile user that needs to access the Internet, respond to some email and write a few documents. They typically have limited features such as smaller, lower resolution screens, slower processor, less storage and lack a CD or DVD drive. They also typically cost less than $800 with some as low as $399. Many of the lower cost units come with Linux instead of Microsoft Windows and the ones that do have Windows generally have only enough power to run Windows XP not Vista. Donât confuse these low cost Netbooks with some of the sub-compact full featured notebooks that are also out there. Sony, Dell and others also offer small lightweight notebooks that have all the features of a full size computer in a tiny package but at a hefty price of $1400 and up. Take the under 3 pound, 11â Sony TT series that starts at about $2000 or a Decked out 12â Dell D430 for $1900. Some of these have plenty of power and features and up to 9 hours of battery life. These are real computers that are just packed into really small cases.

You want to think long and hard about what your actual needs really are. This is especially hard for you, seeing as you say that this is your first laptop. Having never owned a laptop before makes it very difficult to determine what features you would like or are most important to you. Lugging around a laptop on a few trips can definitely give you perspective into just how important size, weight, keyboard Size, screen size, and battery life really are. For some people these Mini Netbooks are the perfect road companion. Unfortunately for me, one of the key components for the real road warrior is missing from most of these Netbooks and that is the built-in Verizon, AT&T or Sprint Mobile Broadband card.

what is the best computer for AutoCad Architecture?

Elise

I'm a first year interior design student and i currently have a macbook pro, which i love, but they do not offer the version if AutoCad that i need for MacBooks. I need to get the Architecture version. I need to know what the best affordable laptop, or if i should get a tablet, or if if there is a way to get this version on to macbook. hard drive space is not a huge deal because i plan on saving everything to an external hard drive. Im completely lost when in come to computers so any help would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Answer
It's seems like you ask this question everyday and you never choose a best answer! what is the point in wasting our time?

You would need more then 2gb ram as you're Architectural building get bigger the more ram you use! this all have to be render from lights walls objects etc has to be calculated the more things you have in you're building the long it well take to render.

If you only have the internet and exterior walls then it will take unless time to render. so i would go for about 6gb and add more ram when needed.

You cannot use a table with a 3d program only with a 2d like Photoshop. if you're gonna make you're textures in photoshop then i would go for a tablet if not then knock that on the head
