What is better for the college student? a Netbook or a Laptop and why? I have no clue and my daughter will be going to college next year. I want something that's new but will last a couple years. Any input gratefully appreciated.

Answer
It's a though question.

Netbooks are cheap, compact and light devices, with great autonomy (5-9 hours) and powerful enough to run every day applications . They have 9-12 inch screens .

Laptops one the other hand are more powerful (can be a lot more powerful actually) and are bigger and bulkier. They also have bigger screens: 13 to 17" and even bigger

A decent netbook would cost you around $350, while a netbook, well, something between $500 to $1000 depending on what you need.

I for one followed a technical college (Computer Science) and i used a laptop, a powerful one, as i needed all the processing speed i could get for rendering software, programming, virtual machines, etc. My sister on the other hand follows Med School and she has a netbook, as it's easier for her to carry around and she doesn't need the extra power.

So if you're daughter is to follow a technical college such as i have, then you should definitely go for a laptop. If not, a netbook should to just fine. It really depends on her needs and preferences.

What specifications should be in a macbook for a college student?

I am going to buy a mac, what memory Ram and hard drive space should I get for a macbook? I am a college student; I just want to use the laptop for school work and maybe some video. I am not a videogamer nor a professional. Please help me decide the specifications. Do you know for how long the batterie run before it has to be plug the wall?

Thank you.

Answer
I'd get 13 In. screen w/ 2 Ghz, 512 RAM, 60 GB hard drive, and a Superdrive

You can always add RAM later.

As for the battery, it really depends on how much charge is currently left on it. There are 2 ways to check this: 1. the top right cornor, look fior the battery icon/text. 2. On the bottom, there will be 5 lights, and a button, press the button, and the light will light up. the more lights, the more charge)
