What is the best laptop for a first year college student?

I will be starting college this fall and I am laptop shopping before fall kicks in and I have no idea what is good when it comes to laptops since my entire life I have owned home computers (PC), currently I have an HP, so I want to get an HP laptop too since they are very easy to handle. No Macs! lol So this is my question, are their laptops reliable? For a multitasking college student? Help please, thanks :-)

everyone in college will have a mac book pro. i got a pc my freshman year and regretted it. no matter what brand, buy a small one so you can take it to class easily

I have to buy a laptop of a minimum budget. Which should i choose? Mac or vaio. In mac i have the money to buy the macbook air 11 inch of 64GB. Is it is too small for a college student. Does it fill my requirements or i should go for vaio.

It could be too small. I'd recommend you test both laptops in retail stores and see which one fits your needs best. Remember you'd be able to get a 15" / 17" Sony Vaio for the same price as an 11" MacBook Air.

Edit: In regards to post above, the MacBook is no longer sold. Your choice is a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro only. However, refurbished MacBooks may still be sold via the Apple Online Store (http://store.apple.com), scroll to the bottom and on the left you'll see Refurbished section.
