Best laptop for a gamer college student/single mom?

Epic Fail

i like to play lotro, and emulators (pokemon mostly, but also older games you cant buy much anymore), sims, wow, things like that, I check email, fb, g+ and use google maps and mapquest frequently if not daily (exception the maps) i have tons of pictures and video of my daughter and will surely have more. i'm going into college and will need a good student type computer. I also keep up with all my paperwork/bills/paychecks on my computer but my printer/scanner recently died so to speak.

What would you all suggest as the best and cheapest laptop for a single mother gamer college student? possibly a printer scanner too (i currently am using a dell with what was an hp scanner/printer)

Answer
**Lenovo Thinkpad T530** (with the 1600x900 display) through the Barnes and Noble Gold discount

- Barnes and Noble Gold discount T530 link: http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/barnesnoblegold/StdAffinityPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=DC8F3B79220E3BCF3B7C12AAA11F7BFB&action=init (you will need to create a free Barnes and Noble Gold account)
- Start with the cheapest base configuration.
- On the configuration page, upgrade the "Display type" to at least HD+ (1600x900). You should not buy the Lenovo Thinkpad T530 in any configuration that includes the default HD (1366x768) display. 1366x768 resolution in a 15.6" display makes things onscreen large, and 15.6" displays that have 1366x768 resolution tend to have very poor image quality due to low contrast. The availability of the upgraded displays upgrade is part of my reasoning for recommending this computer.
- Recommended: Get the free WiFi adapter upgrade to the "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200", because some have reported issues with the stock "Thinkpad 1x1 b/g/n" adapter.
- The 500GB HDD upgrade isn't a bad idea, depending on how much you put on your computer.
- For light gaming, you should generally get the NVS 5400M GPU upgrade, unless it's very light gaming.
- In the cart, click the green "Activate eCoupon" button to get your discount.

Alternatively, there is the Thinkpad T430. Configured the same as the T530, it costs the same.
- The T430 is more portable.
- Though the upgraded 1600x900 display doesn't have any better image quality than its stock 1366x768 display (both are comparable to the quality of the T530's 1366x768 display), you should still take the display upgrade for the resolution alone, unless you need the larger text of the 1366x768 display for eyesight. 1366x768 is still a tad on the low side for 14" display, and makes it difficult to use more than one window. The 14" 1600x900 display also makes things onscreen smaller than the 15.6" 1600x900 display does. 14" 1600x900 makes things onscreen about as small as the 13.3" 1440x900 Macbook Air (for comparison's sake)
- The keyboards are the same, because neither have a number pad.

Laptop for a gaming college student around 1500?

David M

I'm trying to help my brother find a laptop for around $1,500 with a few specifications that are difficult to find together so I'm wondering what people here have to say and maybe if anyone can help.

I'm looking for something with a screen from 14.6 to + inches, with a minimum duel core 2.8Ghz processor 2 GB of ram but preferably 4GB +, 7200 harddrive - what ever size he can get an external if its cost beneficial, and then this is the big kicker - at LEAST 256 mb graphics (gaming) card. - i like GeForce but its hard this is where im having the most trouble

Also 4 year service plans and such things as that are prefered as hes going to college next year so you can include that as a discount (college student) - i know there are other discounts but idk what he qualifies for

His college works with dell and offers the E6400 with 4 year full service plan full parts tracking ect. all for four years and can upgrade to 2.93 GHz but the video card i forget what its called exactly but its formatted for efficiency and applications as opposed to gaming and is from what I've read not great for gaming and terrible with like D3D and such.

Around 1500 . . . up to 1650 maybe idk . . . i wish he could just get a desktop but the school requires a laptop with wireless - ive looked into getting both but thats way to expensive.

Answer
Alienware and Dell XPS can kick *** but on the way, they will also kick your wallet until it screams bloody murder !

The basic configurations are , well, basic.

There are two new systems being hailed as great from (surprisingly) HP, they are called the HDX 16 and the HDX 18.

Check out these reviews about them:

Priced from 1299.99 ( No Quick-ship model for this one )

Hope this helps
