Answer
You have a very good budget, So you can go for:

1. Dell XPS 17 : (RECOMMENDED)

2. ALIENWARE M14x:

Just visit on the above links to check out the specification. These laptops have very good gaming capabilities specially the Alenware M14x having 6 hours of battery life.

For me the screen size of a laptop does not matter, but if you are interested in screen size than go for the Dell XPS 17 because it has 17 inch display whereas the Alienware M14x has 14 inch display.

Hope this proves helpful.

I am in need of a laptop for when i go to college and dont know what to get. i am considering an apple because my sister is in college and she has like 3 papers due and she needs a mac to do them (she got a hp). I also looked at some alienware laptops. Yes i know there for gaming but you can get windows on them and i hear they are super fast so why cant i use it for other stuff. Please give your opinions

Answer
If you enjoy computer games, you will likely want to get a high end laptop (such as alienware, but lots of other brands [Dell, HP, etc] also offer great gaming laptops).

If you just want to do college schoolwork and browse the internet, really, any laptop will do. It's only the computer games that require ultra-good laptop computers. If you aren't gaming, I'd recommend finding a laptop that's cheap, and has a size that you like. (Some like bigger laptops for the bigger screen, but they're heavier. Others prefer smaller, lighter laptops.) Also consider the hard drive space, number of USB ports, and anything else you might want. Personally, I'd just go for the cheapest one that has decent reviews. You can check out user reviews on amazon.com, newegg.com, etc, even if you don't intend to buy from their stores. Anyway, enjoy ^^
