What are some good laptops under $500?

I need a laptop that can handle surfing the internet, Microsoft Office, and can do anything that I would need it to do for school work and later, college work. It has to last for a while (through my senior year of high school and into college, and AT LEAST through undergrad college). It also has to be under $500. It's an added bonus if it can handle Sim games, but that's not necessary. I've done some searching but I haven't bought a computer before, so I don't know what to look for. I only have some much money, so this has to be a one-time purchase kind of thing. What are some good laptops?
