>1. dell vostro 3500

Business machine. Well built, very sturdy, smart looks and VERY long battery life, . Main con is the price and the specifications -- since it's a business machine, it's not particularly geared towards students or young people. This is what you might get if you don't really care about games and just need a sturdy workhorse that lasts 6-7 hours on a single charge* (only if you pick the 9 cell battery option).

>2. dell inspiron

Mainstream series for regular users and Joe Average. It's okay, not great, Dell's series of Inspiron machines can be a little overpriced. Only worth buying if you spot a good deal or if you have a Coupon code. But, there are lots of other machines out there that both give you more bang for buck.

>3. hp dv6t

It's crap -- HP has never made good mainstream laptops, they tend to have higher failure rates than others. However they make good business and HP Pavilion Elites, though they are often overpriced.

here are some suggestions:
Both have the same processor and graphics card, also same amount of RAM. So will perform the same. Only obvious difference is the build quality, and the weight (The Sony is a whole pound less)

Is this laptop worth buying?

I am 17 years old this year and in my final year of high school. This laptop for me will be used in university (4 years). My experiences with laptops is minimal for my first laptop (toshiba) was given to me at a very young at and my comprehension of the processors and/or what not (internal make up is what I am going for).
Ultimately I don't want to run into the problem of it being short lived also it is good to note I am not interested in apple computers.

Answer
The laptop is ok but you can get another model from dell that is much cheaper and you will not tell the difference in performance.

Grab a dell xps (this specific model) from below for $870 compared to $1300 + tax.

First things first, this is an excellent machine. Zippy fast, feels rock solid and user friendly. It is a bit bulky but like I said, feels solid. Keys are lit and feel really secure. As a whole, you feel like you purchased a rock solid machine that wasn't built with cheap materials.

Pros:
1) Great specs (i7 core 2nd gen, 6 gb ram, 750gb hard drive) & performance.
2) Rock solid build & feel (keyboard, touchpad & body).
3) User friendly to setup & use.
4) Two USB 3.0, HDMI & Bluetooth.
5) Excellent speakers, best sound I've heard on a laptop.
6) 2.0 mega pixel webcam.
7) Excellent deal for students with free Xbox 360.

Hope this helps. Dell is a very good brand and their support is top notch.
