Budget laptops for a student?

Apoapsis

What would be a good choice for a student looking for a laptop? I would need it mostly for internet access and file storage. Processing speeds aren't so important.

Answer
... any laptop then.

I mean, processing speeds aren't important... so you could go to Walmart and buy the cheapest laptop available. It would suit your stated needs.

File storage is just a matter of purchasing external drives. Buy portable external drives and they will get the necessary power from the USB connection. Then, you store what you want, regardless of the laptop.

What brand has a great laptop on a student budget?

I need a laptop that will last me the next few years but one that will not take me that long to pay off. Something light, durable and is not from some obscure brand name. Just one that other students have and got the best deal on.

Answer
i was at staples the other day and they had great deal on a toshiba. it was like $800. it had all the new stuff on it. 100GB hd, 1GB ram, intel centrino duo, cd/dvd burner, interal wireless card, 3 2.0 usb slots, sd memory slots. i have a toshiba and it has lasted me 3 years almost. i am actually using it now. i am considering getting the laptop i just described becuase it is just so kickass.
