I also wouldnt mind a PC.

Answer
Macs are very good computers are usually quite reliable. They are very pricey compared to pc's however and very few businesses or your professors will be using one, so it will probably be better to go with a pc. If you were only going to be using it for yourself and not school work, or business I would say go with the Mac. If you decide to go with a pc, there is a new line of processor made by AMD that just hit the market last month. It is called the AMD A-series and is based on the new Llanos platform. I would recommend going with one of them. The A-series like the Intel Sandy Bridge processors has the ability to change the clock speed to match the task at hand. They also have graphics capabilities fused right into the cpu, but unlike the Core i chips the graphics are far superior. For example, you cannot play most of today's more demanding games on the i series chips without a discrete graphics card in your computer. The A-series can play even the most demanding games such as Crysis 2 to at least the mid level graphics settings using only the integrated graphics. The A-series also generally has better battery life and runs 5-15 degrees cooler on average than the Intel processors. Here are a few to take a look at:

College laptop?

help me

I'm going to be going to college in the fall of 2008, hopefully majoring in music. Will I need a laptop or what should I use?

Answer
Laptops are helpful, but it depends on your University and how the individual professor feels about having laptops used in the classroom. I know some professors don't like it and prefer you write your notes down...some don't even allow recorders.
I suggest you ask the person who gives you a tour of your college, he or she will know if it is common to have them on campus or if it is a waste of money.
They are nice to have if you don't want to work in your room and don't have a computer or if you like to work in the library and can't get on a computer. But you will need to be careful, laptops are stolen all the time.
Good luck
