I am wondering what laptops are best for college students. I want a laptop preferably under $600 and doesn't weigh a ton. I want to be able to use it a lot without having to charge it too often, and I need A LOT of storage space that can handle and itunes account with 600 songs and a lot of photos. (I am also an amateur photographer.) I might also have to load Photoshop on it.
Can anyone suggest a good one? Are there any Macs suitable for this? (I currently use a Dell right now, but I might have to switch over to Mac because of photography.)

If you're willing to go over six hundred, Mac's might be your best option with the photography stuff- they tend to be the best with that kind of technical stuff. They also hold up well as far as the hardware goes, and are lighter than Dells (if you look at Dell's, keep in mind they often list the weight of the computer without the battery, which is the heaviest part).
A lot also depends on whether you're going to cart it around a lot- I take mine to school every single day because I take notes on it, this is common in graduate school but not so much on undergrad campuses yet. I recommend getting the biggest laptop you can comfortably use- small screens are a detriment. If you don't carry it often, consider a bigger/heavier screen, but if you need to cart it day to day, consider one that won't break your back, especially added to the weight of books. Don't let gimmicks like fun colors and fancy looks grab you too much- you pay for that kind of stuff when really it's completely unnecessary (if you must fancy up your laptop, consider stickers or one of those websites that will make you a custom-cut sticker for the back of the screen for like $20).

I just want to know the main uses for a laptop (or desktop) when going to college. My sister says she just types papers half the time and uses the internet the other half, does that sound right? and what about for an accounting/finance major? Thanks
