I have done a lot of research on laptops for college, and I know a lot about HP and Dell. However, I would like to learn more about sony laptops because they seem farily nice. I need a 4gb RAM and about a 250gb hard drive.

I wouldn't pick a laptop based on its name. and i wouldn't buy sony anything it wasn't that long ago sony was putting root kits on there music cds from amazon that installed on your computer without you knowing. it basically let them spy on you and see what your up 2. i would look for whatever laptop that had the best options with best price.

I am looking at the Dell Studio 15 and the Sony Vaio series. Which would be best? I listen to a lot of music, am heavily into photography and other things like surfing the web, all in addition to school projects. I don't really have a budget, it's a gift.
I would think about a Mac, I just don't want to have a hard time learning how to use it.

an ultrabook could be a good idea, they`re light and can start up very fast. they usually dont have too big hardrives, but unless you`re gonna store Movies, Pictures, tons of programs in there you should be good. they`re not made for gaming, but i assume its unnecessary in Your case

My budget is from 500-750 USD. I am NOT going to use it for gaming. Primary use is watching movies, using a couple of softwares, facebook, youtube, music etc... And I have a dell inspiron i3 right now and when i open multiple tabs, it slows down pathetically so please also keep that factor in mind.

I will be using the laptop for music, pictures, and videos, so I will need some memory. It needs to be under $1000. I heard Macbooks were good, but they are expensive. I was thinking a Sony Vaio, but I have heard that they do not hold up well.

Don't get a macbook....

I, personally, love Acer. Always come with nice features, built-in webcam + mic, hold up well, and not so tough on the wallet. Also for music+pics+video, u will want to look for Hard Drive Space, not memory.
