What is a good laptop for a college student?

dj

at least 2.2 gigahertz, not too heavy, durable.

Answer
No help in picking a specific laptop, but help in picking a brand:
Avoid HP/Compaq, Gateway, and Acer. They have had the worst record
for reliability for the last 2+ years. Asus, Toshiba, and Sony Vaio
have been the best. See below:

I need to get a new laptop, which would be best?

I want to get a new laptop for everyday use. I would be using it for college and programming as well as internet and video use.

What type of laptop would be best, a dell studio, a mac, or toshiba, acer or what would be best???

Other folks will post of their good experiences with one or two
laptops of a particular brand, and that is fine. But a study of
30,000 laptops is far more telling.

Of course the fanboys of particular brands rated badly will give
my answer a thumbs down.
