I can't understand why the logic of this escapes people. The scary part is that the logic of this is escaping people who intend to go to college.

You are going to college. You are going to have a full plate of worry, with a side order of stress and a OMG milk-shake to wash it all down with. If college was easy, everyone would go. But, what are you going to use a computer for while you are there? Taking notes, doing research on the internet, writing papers, making presentations, reading spread sheets, watching movies and listening to music. Guess what? You can do all that with a netbook. That's right. You can do all of that with a Netbook running Linux, and the Free Open Office suite of programs.

Oh, and since EVERY college has a computer lab for the students to use, you don't NEED a laptop for your school work.

Now, that I've established that you don't need a powerful laptop if you decide to get one, and I've provided enough logic and proof to back that up... let me establish why you would want a CHEAP one.

Your laptop is in your book bag and you toss your book bag on your bed after a long, tiring day. CRUNCH!
You are studying late, and you reach for that energy drink that is just too close to your laptop. SPLOOSH!
You carefully put your book bag with your laptop in it on your bed, and your friend flops down on your bed as you both enter the room. CRACK!
You are listening to music and someone bumps into the desk the laptop is sitting on or trips over the cord powering it, sending it to the floor. SMASH!

I've heard all these excuses and many more in my time as a laptop repairman. They have all led me to the conclusion that since you have PLENTY to worry about already, you don't need to add worrying about a $1000 laptop to the equation. Sure, you can get extended warranties, and Additional Coverage, and all the extras that cover accidents, and you'll end up with a $2000 laptop in the end, and you will still stumble across some way to damage the laptop that is not covered by all that.

Now... if you can spend $400 to $500 for a laptop that will STILL do everything you need... isn't it FAR easier to replace a $400 laptop, than a $1000 laptop, should something happen? It's still only going to be current for the same amount of time, it's still going to let you write papers. It's still going to let you watch YouTube and listen to tunes. It's just going to cost half as much, or less.

Go to Best Buy. Walk around. Touch a few of them. Ask the salesperson to show you some laptops less than $500. They will have specials and one-for's available at that price.

end of line

Freshmen year of college is a fun but sometimes crazy time in your life. These days laptops are the most essential part of your college career, so buying one is a big decision. Coming into my freshman year I didnt know what to do. I searched for computers by looking online with what seemed like an endless amount and then went to a few stores only to have a salesperson flood me with all the extras I âneededâ with it. The more I searched the more frustrated I grew. Dont let laptop shopping stress you out.

Here are a few rules to stick to when purchasing the best college laptop:
1.Dont buy all the gadgets and add ons
2.Skip the upgrades unless needed for certain purpose
3.Buy the extended warranty (your laptop will be through hell)
4.Dont buy a cheapy (going to last the college years) doesnt mean you have to buy big either
5.Buy flashdrives (its going to crash)
6.key features to focus on are the processor, memory, screen, and hard drive
7.If you have a smart phone, you may not want to buy an expensive one
8.If living far away from loved one maybe get a Webcam

College is going to throw a bunch at you, but just stay strong and you'll do fine. A great website for helping students during their freshman year of collge is www.ready4collegelife.com It also shows a few of the best laptops available for collge...
Good luck with college!
