What type of laptop should I purchase?

I wil be entering Penn State's College of Communications next fall, and I am looking into purchasing a laptop while so many retailers are having sales. I am leaning towards purchasing an HP, but I just realized that the College has a Mac lab. I am interested in majoring in either journalism or public relations. To any college journalism student (but especially Penn Staters), what type of laptop should I purchase and do I need any special software or other programming?

I am will starting college this fall at the University of Iowa and will be majoring in journalism with minor in spanish. I'm just looking for recommendations on brands, necessary features, ETC. Any information helps!

Get the cheapest laptop you can find, because you will not be able to get job in Journalism when you graduate.
