best value laptops for college students 2013 image

Is asking for a macbook pro (13") too much?
I just started high school a few months ago, and throughout the past few years many of my teachers have shifted to using technology as a primary resource (ex- we have to have online discussions via an "educational facebook"). I am a straight-A student who often has to bring a computer to the library to work on projects.
I currently use either a shared computer, or my dad's old work laptop that has a ton of his work files on it. The laptop always overheats and sometimes crashes.
I will be 14 in late 2013, so if I were to convince my parents, it would be a combined birthday and christmas gift.
My uncle works for a university near here, or I could get a refurbished one from the apple website. Both options are $999. My family is relatively financially stable, so they could afford it, but it's not exactly a small purchase. I am not legally old enough to work, but I have started an online business that has made some money. (So please don't tell me to get a job, there are no jobs I can have around here)
I really want to start making videos, and none of the movie-making programs (except for imovie) are simple enough yet can make "complicated" projects.
My main concerns are:
-My dad is fine with me getting a laptop, since my brother usually puts viruses (on accident) on our shared computer. However, my mom is not completely convinced and doesn't understand why I need one.
-My dad doesn't see the value of apple over windows.
What are good reasons on why or why not buying a macbook is worth it?
Thank you for your help :)
Answer
no, just say that you need a mac to do video editing and good editing software are only available on mac like final cut, imovie , and mac last longer so you can use it until college

Macbook pro Mid-2012 13inch any good?
Cesar_17_
I just bought a New Macbook Pro 13inch on AMAZON's apple store...
Here are It's specs:
Intel Core i7 Dual-Core 3rd Gen. 2.9Ghz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.6GHz and 4MB L3 Cache and Hyper Threading (for a total of 4 Virtual Cores)
8GB DDR3 Ram 1600mhz
Intel HD 4000 Graphics
750GB Hard Drive 5400rpm
"7-Hour" Battery Life
I'm still a student and I'm just finishing up my 3rd Year in Highschool and Starting my 12th grade year this fall of 2013. College is about a year away practically and I was just wondering if my laptop can last.
My Key Questions are:
-Will my Macbook last my remaining years of Highschool & AT LEAST 2-3 years of college?
-Will this Macbook be able to handle Just about ANYTHING? If not, what CAN it handle? (Photoshop, ADOBE, Final Cut Pro, etc?)
-Will the battery be fine throughout these years?
-If I conserve the Physical look of the macbook pro, how much can it's resale value be around 3-4 years from now? (I plan to either upgrade to SSD and 16GB of ram later in college or sale the Macbook 2 years into college and buy a new one)
THANKS!
