I'm a Junior in HS and I'm quite terrible at taking notes in class with a pen and paper. I'm a great at typing and can look away from the keyboard while I type. I know you can take a laptop to college classes, or at least most classes. I figure you can't take notes on a tablet or laptop in science or math. But what classes allow it and make use of a laptop?

Also, does anyone use a voice memo app on their phone to record the lecture for later? What about setting your phone on some sort of dock to video record the lecture?

Also, could you give me any note taking strategies besides what I asked earlier?

Answer
I never take notes on a laptop.Actually such electronic devices are prohibited in many if not most college course, with the exception of those that actually pertain to computing.
If I could have brought my laptop to my physics calls for example, it would have only been an inconvenience since almost everything of value is shown on the board. You really can't take meaningful notes for math and science classes, or even any other class for that matter. You will be spending you time trying to copy everything down in a meaningful manner instead of actually listening the the professor's explanation of what is written down.
You could use your laptop to do any online homework between actual classes.
As a computer science major, I only use my laptop for actual computer classes where we may do in-class projects. I just prefer to do them on my laptop instead of the school's

what do you use for taking notes in your college classes?

Monster

just wondering cause im gonna go to college.

i have heard of many people using notebooks and pens and then re copying the notes in their laptop when they get to their dorm rooms.

do most professors allow laptops in college?

and what notebook program woud you think is best for a Mac.

Answer
I use my laptop in the larger classes I take because I don't like having to write. The majority of people though use plain old pen and paper. Most people don't copy their notes onto computers.
In most of the classes I've taken, the professors don't allow laptops, but there are usually a couple of rule breakers. It's mainly because laptops are distracting, and a lot of people facebook during class rather than take notes.
I have a Mac, and I use Microsoft Office. I would definitely recommend it. Most of the files I download are in Word format, so it's convenient to have it. You'll probably wind up having to download Neo Office at some point, which is Mac's version of Open Office.
