I'm entering college in September after being out of school for the past thirty years and I am wondering what would be a good laptop to use in college?
Answer
Considering how frequently we tend to replace computers and laptops, get a good value one as most of your initial classes will deal a lot with note taking and basic calculations.
If you have an idea of which programs you might be running during that first year, can check the system requirements.
However, when you are ready to be doing some serious stuff, you will be in a better position to know what you are looking for in a laptop.
In short, get a good value one and when it is time to get a more serious one you will know what you need and even why you need it.
I hope this helps.

What Mac Laptop should I get for high school and college?
Katie
I'm going into high school and the school requires you have a laptop. I'm set of a Mac but unsure which one to get. It needs to be light, fast, and needs to be able to last me 10 years through high school and college. I don't have a specific budget so long as it does exactly what I want. I hate my school laptop now because its too slow and feels like I'm lifting a cinderblock every time I pick it up! Please help!

Go with the MacBook Pro. Normally the regular MacBook was the best option for Students, for value, but they discontinued it. The MacBook Air is cool in how thin it is, but that sacrifices i/o ports and space to have a DVD drive, as well as memory and hard drive capacity. You actually get much more for your money with a MacBook Pro. I have a MacBook Pro 13", I love it.
Also, expecting a laptop to last you 10 years is unrealistic, because not only do laptops take more abuse than desktops and therefore die faster, but also any computer will be completely obsolete in less than ten years! However, a Mac certainly is your best bet to last the longest.
