best lightweight laptop for student image
oredigger9
I am interested in purchasing a laptop for college next year. I would like to have a lightweight laptop that I will be able to dock in my dorm room with a larger monitor, keyboard, and printer.
What model laptop would you reccomend and what docking station?
Thanks!
Answer
Buy a Macbook. You can get one for $999 with student discount (even less for older models, check your bookstore), and you won't even need a docking station. You can plug everything right into the laptop, and unplug it when you want to go mobile.

I need a laptop that's compatible with all the work I do, what should I buy?

I'm going to be a college student and I want to buy a lightweight laptop that's wallet friendly. I do a lot of photo shopping so I want something that has a good storage capacity as well.
Any ideas or suggestions as to what I should purchase? Or what memory/ storage it should have?
Answer
If you are familiar with Mac OS X, I would recommend a Macbook(13.3in) or Macbook Pro(15.4in). The 17in is just too big. The standard for the Macbook is a 120gb hard drive, the black one has a 250gb drive, and the Macbook Pro has a 250gb maximum.
For Windows, the Dell Inspiron is a good notebook, and a bit cheaper than a Macbook. Gateway also make laptops, but slightly below Dell on the quality scale.
Bottom Line: The Macbook is lightest and likely the most powerful for what you pay. If you run out of storage space, consider upgrading your HD(very easy) with something like a WD Scorpio 320gb drive.
