Good Laptop for college?

Hey.
I'm looking to buy a laptop for college. I want something light weight and smaller, so that I can bring it around with me at school all day. I would prefer it was pink.
Macbook is a little out of my price range and a netbook won't have all the things I need on it.
I'm trying to keep my price range under $600
any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Good laptop for college??

I' taking college classes (still in high school) and i am noticing that almost everyone uses laptops to take notes in class, so i was wondering what a good laptop would be for me.

Specs

1. price: no more than $1300... I am buying this myself!!! (was looking into mac book but not sure i need all that stuff and price :S)

2. portability... no 17" screens please. I don't want a giant laptop sticking out my backpack :P

3. memory: I don't need a ridiculously large hard drive because i can always get an external drive, but i don't want something too small. i would prefer 80GB to 200GB range

4. Speed: not crazy fast simply because of price, but not turtle slow either, probably 2GB RAM minimum would be nice

5. durability: I want something that will last me through college at least!

P.S. I would like a laptop that has a Microsoft office bundle if possible (if not, then I don't mind buying it separately, this is the least important to me)

Hey there. First, you are vastly overestimating the price of the specs you asked for. A comp with 2gb ram, 200gb hdd, ~15" will run you in the 3 to 400 dollar range.

There's a comp with 4gb ram, and a 250gb hdd, at 15.6" screen.

DO NOT BUY A MAC. Mac's are overpriced, paying for a name when you could be paying for better functionality and even better reliability vis-a-vis an ASUS, Lenovo or Sony VAIO.

With 1200$ you'll be getting close to the top-end of non-gaming laptop specs, and the mid-range or gaming models.

You will be looking for i5 or i7 duo or quad-core processors, 4-8 gigs of RAM, 320 to 500+ gb hdds, and dedicated GPUs with 1gb or more discreet memory.

Those two cost the same, but the top one is more powerful by far. It is, however, a 17-incher, while the second is a 15-incher. The miniaturization drives the price up, so the smaller one is less powerful, for the same price.

I really recommend ASUS laptops, as they are, in my LONG experience with laptops, the best. As I mentioned above, however, Lenovo and Sony laptops are also very good. If you want more video and gaming performance, go ASUS. If you want a laptop you can take to a business meeting, go Lenovo. If you want a laptop that is sleek and smooth (both in looks and in performance) go Sony VAIO.

Lastly, there are no laptops sold with Office already installed. Microsoft used to sell them that way, but an antitrust suit made it illegal a while back.

What mac laptop should I get if I'm mainly running Adobe Creative Suite Design?

I need to buy a laptop for college and I'm going to be studying graphic design, so obviously I'm getting a mac. But other than that, I'm pretty clueless as to what specific laptop I should get. I'm not exactly rolling in dough, so I'm looking for a computer that can comfortably handle Adobe Creative Suite that won't kill my bank account.

Do not fall into the trap thinking that graphics design = Mac. That is not correct. Just because you are studying graphics design means you automatically have to use a Mac.

I'm a graphics designer as well and I handle all my work on a DELL.
Mac does not offer you much bang for your dollar right now. Mac laps top are all currently using outdated technology.

Go to Apple store, and you'll see for yourself. Macbook or Macbook Pros are all running Core 2 Duo processor. That is an outdated technology. For 2000 dollars you get a crappy 15 inch Macbook Pro with 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo. That is an absolute RIP OFF!

Go to Dell.com instead and look at a studio 17 laptop. For just $1,014.0, you can buy an i5 Laptop with the same amount of RAM. Not to mention it has a 17.3 inch screen.

i5 is pretty good, but i7 is even better. They are both more efficient and runs even better than the out dated Core 2 Duo. The Dell laptop will run even faster than your average Macbook Pro.

You can also consider a studio 15 lap top. $1,049.00, you can customize it to have i71.6GHz. That's a FOUR core laptop. It utilizes the latest technology and will last you much longer than an average Macbook Pro.

You will be able to run CS4 and even CS5 with absolute ease. Don't fall into the Mac trap. When it comes to the better deal, get a DELL. Macs will rip you off without giving you as much power.

What is the best kind of mini laptop to get? And also, do they come equipped with WI â Fi or would I have to purchase something extra? If so, please tell me what? I would appreciate it if you shared your honest personal experience with me, it does help a lot. I plan to use this mini laptop for college assignments, personal and public use and also in my home. Please be specific and honest.

I know this is a bit predictable but get a macbook air they are the top one I can think of. Then the asus zenbook. Then the dellxps 13. All beautiful machinces with plenty of power and will do moree than expected for college. These all have wifi built in so no need to purchase anything extra.
