How often do you use a laptop or tablet, with keyboard to take notes in college?

I'm a Junior in HS and I'm quite terrible at taking notes in class with a pen and paper. I'm a great at typing and can look away from the keyboard while I type. I know you can take a laptop to college classes, or at least most classes. I figure you can't take notes on a tablet or laptop in science or math. But what classes allow it and make use of a laptop?

Also, does anyone use a voice memo app on their phone to record the lecture for later? What about setting your phone on some sort of dock to video record the lecture?

Also, could you give me any note taking strategies besides what I asked earlier?

Answer
I never take notes on a laptop.Actually such electronic devices are prohibited in many if not most college course, with the exception of those that actually pertain to computing.
If I could have brought my laptop to my physics calls for example, it would have only been an inconvenience since almost everything of value is shown on the board. You really can't take meaningful notes for math and science classes, or even any other class for that matter. You will be spending you time trying to copy everything down in a meaningful manner instead of actually listening the the professor's explanation of what is written down.
You could use your laptop to do any online homework between actual classes.
As a computer science major, I only use my laptop for actual computer classes where we may do in-class projects. I just prefer to do them on my laptop instead of the school's

Im looking for a laptop for college and there are a lot to choose from. I want one that holds a lot i take alot of pictures so i need the space but i also need it for assignments too please help

Answer
Don't get a Mac, because of corporate greed by the company they limit what you can actually do in the computer greatly. Don't buy a Dell, gateway because they are the worst manufacturers out there.

I actually just bought a laptop after over 10 days of looking and found an a pretty cool deal. Theres a seller on Amazon called "Electronic Mind" that is selling some really powerful Acer Aspires way below retail value and has the lowest price on Amazon all together.

Here is the link:

I dont know how they can sell them so cheap but I have had mine now for 2 weeks and I am very happy with my brand new laptop.

With Acer Aspire you cant go wrong. The laptop is wicked, I am running very strenuous programs on it such as music production software and hardcore games and it can take anything I throw at it

I honestly think this is your best choice!!!

What brand of laptops is the best?

evie 's

I need a laptop for college and I was just wondering which brand was the best. I don't really care about aesthetics I just want something that's going to last me a long time. I'll be using it for regular things like writing papers, research, internet, music and watching movies. I was told the best brand of pc's was sony, it that true?

Answer
The worst brand you can buy is a MAC. they are very overpriced and is inferior to the PC in value, performance and variety.

Within PCs, brands don't have a difference. There are only three companies in the world that produces parts for laptops (MSI, Lenovo and I forget the third). All companies like HP, Toshiba, Dell, Sony, Gateway, etc.. all buy from wholesalers and put them together and sell it with a warranty.

So basically when chosing a brand, you are chosing which company has better service and warranty. Sony is very pricey and service is sort of suspect. Dell is decent but they tend to buy cheaper parts. HP and Toshiba are ok as well, they are the two biggest laptop sellers in the world, that means something right?

However I would recommend Lenovo (formerly known as IBM, who btw was one the first companies to every develop a computer). Like I said earlier, Lenovo make their own parts, so when you call in for service or tech support, they know their stuff 100%. It is more expensive than Dell or HP, but not as much as Sony. But the quality of their stuff is much better IMO.

What is the best laptop for me to make an investment in?

Q. I am taking on line classes for college this semester. I need to be able to safe files as ptf and in word as well to send to my professors.

Answer
Computers are like cars, they depreciate in value as soon as you leave the store. They're not investments.

Now, with that being said, any brand of laptop should do, just check out their failure rate and customer support first. Get the one with the most features you can afford, because laptops can't be easily upgraded like desktops.

Definitely get a dual core processor; stay away from Celerons (not enough power). I'd stick with a laptop with XP instead of Vista, since support is very limited right now. Most manufacturers will give you an upgrade ticket for a free Vista upgrade anyway.

Can's stress this enough --- GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!
Remember, you'll keep this for years, so make sure you protect it with the warranty as laptops are more prone to problems than desktops.

I recommend Dell, Gateway, Sony, or HP/Compaq

Should I buy a MacBook or MacBook Pro for college?

Will

I need a laptop for college, and am trying to figure out which one to get. Besides their exteriors, there doesn't seem to be a very big difference between the two (just a little more CPU and DDR3 instead of DDR2). Would it be worth the extra cost for the MacBook Pro?

Which one would be the best overall mix of performance and value?

Thank you so much for your help!

Answer
As someone who is in college and has a PowerBook G4, I'd say unless you're going to art school or majoring in art or graphic design, you're better off with a PC, especially if you're planning to be using Microsoft Word or Powerpoint, since you'd have to buy Microsoft Office separately from the laptop. My mac is on it's 3rd year and everything runs fine- however, the physical computer itself is starting to wear down, like issues with the fan and overheating.

If you're deadset on a Mac for school, I think a MacBook would serve you just fine-- unless, of course, you're doing graphics-heavy or movie-editing stuff. Then you might want to go with a MacBook Pro. But if you're just writing papers, surfing the web, using AIM, etc, a MacBook would be fine.

Also, Aaron- my old Powerbook G4 does that same touchpad thing. So that might be applicable to all mac laptops...
