best laptop for college student?

XOXO

im going to college next year and was planning on buying a new laptop because i have had a hand me down for a while now. I had a Dell d600 laptop that just broke ( i spilled water on it ) and i loved it.. it was SMALL which was one of my favorite things about it.. not to mention it was simple and i figure it would be pretty cheap .. ANYWAY any other suggestions to a laptop that would suit my needs (and CHEAP!) links would be greatly appreciated.

I dropped my laptop and the screen shattered.
:[
ugh

I have a $4,000 limit.

I need something with a lot of memory, and a built in web cam .

I don't really know computer lingo, but I need something with a good word processing application(?) .

Please, I need it by Wednesday.

Answer
I would get a nice Macbook Pro (they can't get viruses like PC's do, and you don't have to buy anti-virus software with a Mac!). The 2.53/15" model as it is should be plenty for any student. It has a webcam, dvd burner, 4gb memory, huge hard drive, and it's brand new (they only came out last week!). They are $2,499.

You will need to purchase and install Microsoft Office for word processing. Although apple does have it's own software, Office is most commonly used. That is anywhere from $110 to $149 depending on where you purchase it. It would take about 10 minutes to install on your new laptop.

Wherever you shop and whatever you choose, be sure to use your student discount for 10% off.

You also should go on your college website and look at their recommended specs to make sure that the laptop you pick matches with their recommendations.

Good luck.

Laptop requirements for college students?

Mario

I'm currently a senior in high school and am looking at attending the Ohio State University or the University of Cincinnati. Do either of those schools have a laptop that you are required to have for classes? I'm going into the field of engineering, does that affect what kind I should have?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
Ok first most universitys don't require laptops but recommend them , and yes being an engineer your gonna want a system that can run auto cad and 3d modeling software so make sure your laptop has a good at least dual , if not quad core proccessor as it will help with rendering images quickly and make sure you have a dedicated graphics chip in it to also help render images the ati and nvidia mobility series should do just fine , and idk if they have them in laptops yet but something like the new ati fire pro cards in a laptop would be perfect as its designed for those sorta applications , so yeah look for 1 a good proccessor and 2 a dedicated graphics chip for good performance , and hell if you buy one that has that you could do some light gaming on it as well if you do that and have a bit of spare time evey now and then

Recommended PC laptop for college student?

Hi. I'm a college student and I'm looking for a great laptop to help me out for school. I'm looking for something that will last and runs great. I always want to be able to run programs like Adobe Premiere and Photoshop on it, it's not in major, but I do do film. Anybody have any great recommendations? I'm looking to spend withing $1000 but not much more than that. I'm not looking for a Mac, nothing against Macs, there're great, it's just not what I'm looking for and they go beyond my price range anyways.

Answer
Im having the same issue and use similar softwares. Our computer guy is a massive fan of Lenovo and Asus, had nothing but good things to say about them and was really impressed by their machines. He recommended against Dell and said Toshibas depend, they can be a hit or miss. So I would look into those two brands and go from there. Look at the specifications for how much memory you want and other things. good luck.

What is the best laptop for a college student? Or mention any cheap ones? But they dont all have to be cheap.

Answer
well if your using it for basic things like office programs and watching hd video/movies, then any laptop will do. i am gonna recommend this one. it is 249 from this site. i would however go to a local computer shop and get used RAM.i did that with my laptop. it will cost you ten dollars or less and they will install it for you for free. i would also invest in an accidental protection plan, that way if anything happens to it, then you will be able to get it fixed or replaced for free. and since you will be carrying it around at college the chances of something happening go up.

if you want something a little more powerful with some extra RAM,try this one,it is a hundred dollars more. this site offers free shipping and only collects sales tax in california.contact me if you need more help.

I need to buy a Dell laptop for a college student. What are all the "bells and whistles" (i.e., memory size, internet ready, etc.) that will do the job and not break the bank?
