best laptop for college students?

Kimbo slic

I'm looking to going back to school full time now. I'd like to get a good laptop. one that has good memory, is small and managable and sturdy. what are your suggestions.

Answer
Totally depends on you.
I go to a university where laptops are required, and i have seen every make/model available on desks.

I personally love netbooks, they are small and light and manageable, and powerful enough for any schoolwork.

im going to college this fall and i'm looking for a light weight versatile laptop that i can use

it would be nice if i could customize it

under 3000 plz =]

Answer
A base model MacBook is about $1000 or so with a student discount. You can't get more versatile than that, since it's capable of running Vista and XP. Not to mention features like built-in video instant messaging and no worries about viruses.

Sure, you can get a cheaper laptop, but buying a computer is like buying a car: spend a little more and you'll get a better car.

I would like to know what laptop/notebook is the best a college student. I probably need a lot of memory on it and it should be able to fit in a back pack without being to heavy. Also do colleges make you have a certain laptop/notebook? I am going to a community college, would it matter?

Answer
The requirements for college are actually some of the lightest, as most of what you do is browse for information/email/course work and word processing.

What you need to look are also the other factors, such as battery life, weight, and what you are going to use it for.

Netbooks : Great for portability, great battery life (up to 7-10 hours in same cases), all in one unit. Negatives : Small keyboard, Small screen, No CD/DVD drive.

Laptops: all around great, however they can be a bit larger and heavier.

I would look for a $500 laptop from either HP, Dell, or toshiba

try to get :
Core 2 duo
3 gigs memory

good luck

I currently have a Toshiba Satellite and I've very happy with how everything works, but I need an upgrade since its a bit old. I'm lookin for good memory, good battery, and light. Anything you personally know that fits the criteria? Oh also a good price since the new toshiba satellite that i saw is over $700 and as a college student I'm short on money.
What about those ACER computers? I've seen them for a good price but i really don't know if they're good or not
Thanks!

I need an hp laptop for college and I'm torn between two choices: HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Entertainment Notebook PC and the HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx Entertainment Notebook PC. Both have similar characteristics but the first laptop has a longer battery life (7 hours) which is the better purchase? I was told that longer battery life isn't much and just makes the laptop heavier.

Answer
I would ask this question from http://www.hp-forums.com. They have really knowledgeable people on HP products since they have almost every computer HP has out.

What is better for the college student? a Netbook or a Laptop and why? I have no clue and my daughter will be going to college next year. I want something that's new but will last a couple years. Any input gratefully appreciated.

Answer
It's a though question.

Netbooks are cheap, compact and light devices, with great autonomy (5-9 hours) and powerful enough to run every day applications . They have 9-12 inch screens .

Laptops one the other hand are more powerful (can be a lot more powerful actually) and are bigger and bulkier. They also have bigger screens: 13 to 17" and even bigger

A decent netbook would cost you around $350, while a netbook, well, something between $500 to $1000 depending on what you need.

I for one followed a technical college (Computer Science) and i used a laptop, a powerful one, as i needed all the processing speed i could get for rendering software, programming, virtual machines, etc. My sister on the other hand follows Med School and she has a netbook, as it's easier for her to carry around and she doesn't need the extra power.

So if you're daughter is to follow a technical college such as i have, then you should definitely go for a laptop. If not, a netbook should to just fine. It really depends on her needs and preferences.

What specifications should be in a macbook for a college student?

College Gu

I am going to buy a mac, what memory Ram and hard drive space should I get for a macbook? I am a college student; I just want to use the laptop for school work and maybe some video. I am not a videogamer nor a professional. Please help me decide the specifications. Do you know for how long the batterie run before it has to be plug the wall?

Thank you.

Answer
I'd get 13 In. screen w/ 2 Ghz, 512 RAM, 60 GB hard drive, and a Superdrive

You can always add RAM later.

As for the battery, it really depends on how much charge is currently left on it. There are 2 ways to check this: 1. the top right cornor, look fior the battery icon/text. 2. On the bottom, there will be 5 lights, and a button, press the button, and the light will light up. the more lights, the more charge)
