Laptop for high school?

Ok, so I am going into high school next year (I'm currently in Grade 8) and I am hoping to get a laptop. I will be using it mostly for school work and surfing the internet. Nothing too intensive. So, I was wondering what laptop would be good for my needs?
I'll also be carrying it around from class to class at school.

See honestly I would suggest that your requirement is basic and not that high.

What I would suggest that today there is a lot of trend of buying a refurbished laptop which gives three benefits to the customers:

2) Excellent Specs ( Upgradeable)

3) Value for money/ Prices

These are the main benefits which customers look into while they are purchasing Refurbished laptop, for students this is the best option and I would suggest that you should also go for this!!!

I am going to be a sophomore in high school next year and I'm going to need a new laptop. I need something that has tons of memory and I need a REALLY good price. I dont really like notebooks but I did use a 10 in. last year I liked.

A mac. Expensive, but worth it. Huge hard drives of 500 gigs and super easy to use and organize files. and fulfills all the needs of a high school student. Won't break and freeze or get viruses nearly as easily as a pc. If you get a cheap PC it will break in a few years and you will need to spend more for the next. Buy a mac now and save your money later.

I just graduated myself from a small private high school...

I didn't need one, and I found that the people who had them usually used them to play games in class, and spend their time not working.

If you really want one, I would spend my money on a computer with a good processor, and some good word processing equipment.

Buy a cheaper laptop, so that if your laptop is stolen and you cant retrieve it, you arent completely heartbroken...

umm... dell, hp, and apple are good laptop providers.

Hiiiii. :] Well, I'm in high school and I just got a new laptop. If you only need to use it at home and once in a while in school, I'd suggest a Toshiba Satellite or a Compaq. Mine's a Compaq cq60-211dx. I got mine for 300 and the Toshiba also have ones that are 300. Just look for them during holidays! They're about 15 inches. The battery isn't great, but it's what's the price is. It might be a bit heavy, but hey, you're in high school and not college. So hopefully, you shouldn't need a laptop too much. ^-^ Imagine all the books and everything already! Anyways, just get a cheap laptop like Compaq or Toshiba. Take good care of it and you shouldn't be seeing any of the complaints the bad users are claiming. I love my laptop because it's so shiny and it's very responsive...maybe it's just because I've been a such a bad owner to my desktop. So yeah, I learned my lesson about taking care of computers so I'm good w/ my 300 dollar laptop. Get one at Bestbuy or Walmart. :D And say no to all those warranties, etc. Really unncessary. For antivirus, try AVG on download.com instead of buying. For Microsoft, try openoffice (Google their website). :]

What is the best laptop for a high school student?

My grand daughter needs a cordless laptop. Which is the best for her needs? Must be able to take to school and home. Do homework, connect to school's website etc. I'd like to keep the cost low of course, but get one that meets her needs. It's funny, when I was in school all I needed was a sharpened pencil, lined paper and a good reason why my homework wasn't finished. Anyway, appreciate any help.

A cheap, bang for your buck laptop would be a HP (Hewlett Packard). Dell and Apple are overpriced, especially for the needs of a high school student.

i'm a junior in high school and i'm in need of a computer replacement. i've always had a desktop but i am considering getting a laptop this time. would you recommend a desktop or a laptop and which?
i'm planning on going into engineering in college, i heard macs are good for this. is that true?

Id go with a laptop. You can take it with you to the library to study, or on vacation if a teacher gives you an assignment that you do for the semester etc. Desktops can be cheaper but laptops are much more affordable now than they used to be.

For example at a low price for a basic laptop you'd use to research, email, type up papers etc you could pay under $200

Hope that helps! P.S. If you do get a higher priced one for playing games etc.. make sure the graphics card has dedicated memory.. all that means is it wont "share" memory from your computer programs and will be a little smoother.. less choppy.
