Alright so ill be going to college next year, and was wondering what you guys think is the absolute best computer for college. Im not into gaming or anything and i would like it to be under $1500
Ill be Majoring in biology, and ld prefer the latest processors like i7, but i don't know what is the best overall laptop with good battery life, performance,portability,etc.

Even if you're not into gaming, a laptop with fairly average performance would be advisable. I would not get a mac, as you will have compatibility issues if you need to transfer documents etc, plus they are more expensive and you don't really get anything more. They are a good quality brand, but if you don't need one for video editing etc there's no point to having one, as you have problems transferring documents of different formats, and using different programs etc. They are a pain if you want to work with other people without them (trust me, I've done multiple university group projects and had these issues).
Go for an i3 or i5 laptop (That's the type of processor). I have an i3 and it runs all games I want to play, and is perfect for university work. Anything i3 or i5 will be fine for you.
Get something with 4gb RAM or more. Don't worry about the graphics card or anything, that's only really for gaming.
What are you going to be studying at college? Do you need a numpad or a disc tray? These will be important factors in your decision. If you don't need a numpad or disc tray, you can get away with buying the slightly smaller laptop (which means they are also lighter, so you can take it in to your classes etc more easily).
The best brands are HP, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony. Basically anything with a big name will be fine, and try and get a warranty. Don't get a compaq. HP tends to have a few issues with long term reliability, toshiba usually last for a very long time and are cheaper, just don't look as nice. Sony are very expensive, but good quality, same with samsung.
I can't tell you exactly what model to buy, as it depends on what your local store has in stock at the time. Just go in and buy and i3 or i5 from a leading brand, don't worry about graphics card specifications (most of these laptops have one in there anyway, it wont make a difference for you), and get one which has a numpad and disc drive if you need it.

Okay, I would suggest you get one with a numpad because you're going to be entering lots of data etc for prac reports (I'm a physics major, but have done a lot of biology as well). If you're more practically minded, you definitely don't need a mac.
My flatmate has an i7 samsung which cost him around $1500 but he has not had an issue with it. Likewise, the toshiba laptops have an extremely good reputation for lasting a very long time. Pretty much everything in a similar price range has the same performance (all the companies release similar computers at the same time), it's just a matter of finding the best value for money. In my experience, toshiba always wins in this field. I have had my HP for 3 years, and it's starting to get old and have issues. The battery collapsed within a year and a half, and I've had a lot of software problems with the HP support software (causing crashes etc).
Like I said, I can't just give you a specific laptop to go and buy because I don't know what you have in stock at your stores. You need to go in there and ask these exact questions to a salesperson. Bear in mind, they're probably working for a commission.

Hp or Dell laptop for College?

Hi I'm going to start college in a couple of weeks and was debating on whether to get a Hp or Dell laptop. With Hp recently in the news for dropping out of the tablet and smartphone market, I would think that they won't be reliable in the laptop area. Just wanted to know what your opinions were on those to laptop manufacturers.

The two brands are very reliable. HP dropped their WebOS platform, but don't worry. That won't be affecting their desktop/laptop business. Their revenue depends on the sale of these two products.
You should search up some laptops from both brands and post another question. The users can than tell you which model of the laptops are better. Brand alone most of the time can't determine which laptop is better for your needs.
