I want to get a macbook. People keep telling me to get a student discount, but I don't know if the student discount is something I am supposed to get from my college, or does the Apple store actually give it to college students?

The student discount, is given by MAC when you buy a Mac PC.
You'll need to show your Student ID or Student Credential.

Macbook discount for stundents is around $100 - $200 Discount.

Bestbuy has no student discount that I ever heard of for any products. If you live towards the west coast of US, Fry's is usually less than Bestbuy especially on sale models. Compare prices with Lenovo.com. I recently bought a cheap Lenovo Essentials, which is basically a generic laptop. The Ideapad Y570 is a top value for a very good product, and all Thinkpads are good, but I got a G570 at Fry's on an in-store special for $471+tax as 15.6 screen, i5-2430M 2.4GHz CPU, 750GB HDD, and 4GB RAM. I needed to upgrade my wireless at home, but for the price is a great system. Price your choice against newegg and tigerdirect and amazon and lenovo.com. If you have a Discovercard, shopdiscover has rebates. If you are in college, sometimes there are arrangements with schools for discounts. Also, at Lenovo.com, provide an upfront email address and they send back a 10% off coupon for first purchase.

My Dell laptop got me through my five years of college - and as long as you get the four year warranty, it's a good deal (trust me, you'll kick yourself is something happens after the first year and it's not under warranty).

The amount of personal options determines how much your computer will cost - but I would highly recommend getting a good amount of memory and RAM (I didn't have a lot of RAM and so it took my computer 10 minutes to start up).

Dell usually has sales for laptops/desktops towards the end of July/early August that are "aimed" at college students.

If you can find a cheaper laptop, go for it - but a laptop is something that I would invest the money in. You don't want to have a piece of crap that you saved $300, but it hardly works.

Yes, They do offer a percent off but its only for College Students, Junior/Senior Year of HS Students that are already planning to attend the specific college that works with dells program, or you have to work for a school such as faculty and staff. I'm ready to have a good, reliable laptop with which I may travel easily. I go to Umass Boston and I know there is a student discount but I assume there has to be some other ways to get discounts on laptops through computer drives or other companies, websites, orgs, coupons, etc? I don't mind something refurbished, display models or unpopular styles, colors, etc. I just need for it to be under the full warranty which allows you to bring the laptop to the Apple store for services and repairs.

There is no other way to get a discount on a new Mac, unless someone returned one for some reason, at which point it can't be sold as new and may be discounted even further. You can buy refurbished models directly from Apple: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=MTY0MjUwOTE, which include a full 1 year warranty.

There's no education discount on top of the discount you get for a refurbished model. You can take any Mac, under warranty or not, to the Apple Store for service and repair; the only question is what it will cost you to repair something.

I got a new laptop with windows 7 Pro, I want to know whether it is the full version or the student discounted version. I know it is identical, but you can't use it for "business" purpose unless it is the full licensed version.

Do this: Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System, and you should see on the page what Win 7 edition you've got.
