I need a laptop backpack that I can carry my Inspiron E1705.?

I'm a college student and want something that I can get my laptop out easily. Also not to big I'm a small girl

You need to be aware of the dimensions of your laptop. I know your model is a 17" display, but that usually does not mean that your laptop is 17" wide.

I like the "Targus CityGear" line of backpacks, but since your a woman you might enjoy something more slimline. What would the best laptop choice be for a photography student at the Art Institute of Philadelphia?

I'm starting classes at the Art Instutute of Philadelphia in less than week and I have yet to buy a laptop. Not too smart, I know. But I was just wondering if anybody had gone there or to any of the Art Institutes for photography. I'm not sure if I should get a mac or if I would be ok with a pc, probably dell. I totally appreciate any input!

Well, the Art Institutes use Mac - All of them. Me, I prefer PC but as a Linux user, both suck in different ways. Contrary to popular belief among "artists", Mac isn't all it's cracked up to be, and there is nothing about Mac that makes it more suited to art or artists.

To answer your question, get a laptop that has the features suited to 2D and 3D graphics. I use a Lenovo ideapad y510 w/ 4GB of RAM, an intel core2 duo processor with the nvidia GeForce 8600M graphics card (way better than the intel graphics card), running vista home premium. It's not top shelf, but it works well and cost me just under $1,000. It has enough memory allocation to allow me to manipulate several images at the same time in photoshop CS3 - which is about all I care about.

Since AI uses Mac, most of their instruction will apply to Mac, especially for keyboard shortcuts. The issues with differences wouldn't bother me as I have grown accustomed to how to get around photoshop using PC and corresponding functionality through Mac. I'm just not going to go out of my way to switch to Mac because the school I go to uses it when I know how to work with my PC just fine. I don't think it'd be that big a deal though, to be honest. Instructors often give instruction mentioning both PC and Mac functions. The most important part is, get a laptop which works best for you.

AGAIN, there is NOTHING that makes Mac more suited to artists or photographers. Seriously. Don't fall for that nonsense. Cameras and computers are tools. If you can't get around a computer unless it's a Mac, I doubt you're a very good photographer or artist. Sorry, I felt the need to add this because of all the, "yeah definitely Mac because it's for artists" answers. Jesus.

Who should I have take pictures of my boyfriend and I?

So my boyfriend and I have been together for 9 months, I know it's not that long but the only pictures we have together are a few silly, poor quality webcam photos on my laptop.

If we end up being together for years to come, I would love to have pictures to look back at and be glad we took them of us together :)

We can't afford to pay a professional photographer, so who is a good person to have do this for us?
Any ideas?

Going to school? Know anyone that is? I had my senior pictures done by a girl who was getting her degree in photography at the time; usually students will gladly do some work for less than what a professional would charge. Because they need the practice and the money!
Otherwise, trust a friend or family member with the camera; might not look professional but it'd be better than a webcam:)

I am just starting out with photography. Learning the basics and experimenting with different types of subjects. I have a student version of Photoshop that I use to touch up images. Here is my dilemma:

1- My laptop is old, and doesn't support pixel shader (the one needed to have the best results from photoshop).
2- I only have an entry-level SLR, a Canon t2i, and want to upgrade the kit lens to a sigma 17-70mm.

The problem is, as a student, I only have funds to do one of these things. I am wondering which is more important to get better photographic results. I am leaning towards getting the lens now and upgrading the computer later in the year. But i'm just not sure. I would really appreciate a professional opinion about this.

There is nothing wrong with the camera and lens you have. It is fully capable of producing professional looking photos if you have the skills to do so.

In order to be able to use Photoshop and/or Lightroom, you need a fast computer (Intel i5 CPU or better) with at least 6 gb of RAM

After you have honed your skills using your fine T2i over the next few years, then consider buying a new camera body. Lenses you can buy as you find you have extra money. For now learn how to use your 18-55 mm lens to its fullest potential
