Erm...I'm not sure that that even exists. What kind of games are you planning on playing?

Decent laptop for student and gaming?

Q. So, I'm in need of a laptop for a student that can last me a while and is reliable for preferably under $700. But I'm also hoping to find one that can run certain games, probably the most demanding of them being Left 4 Dead 2, GTA IV, Fear, maybe The Sims 3. Other games that I'm planning on include Team Fortress 2, Serious Sam, and a few others. I also would prefer to have something with decent speakers (I'm an avid music listener).
So, is there anything out there within my budget that can run the above games on moderately high settings and that is also good for a student? All answers are appreciated.

Answer
Acer AS7741G-6426 is a very nice laptop. I've returned the same model (very reluctantly, I should say) because of some problems, but I really liked the machine, its speed and design. My extensive shopping research proved that in this price range and even above it, there is nothing better on the market. I'm not a gamer, but my laptops must handle some video/graphic editing in addition to regular "laptop chores."

I had to wait before this model became available again - I wanted to buy directly from Amazon since I prefer their customer service, price and return policy.

Laptop configuration for students?

Arpita

My brother will be taking an admission for B.E Computer Science. He has to study four years to complete the course and he may continue his masters. So,please suggest a best configuration laptop computer that will suit upto certain years.
Also considering the factor, guys are heavily involved in computer games, need something robust and easily configurable

Answer
a normal laptop suitable for a student would cost 35thousand rs.
a gaming laptop whereas, would cost in excess of 60thousand...
Laptops are generally not good for gaming as they overheat and stuff...even after paying that much..it would be wiser to get a 35k laptop and put another 40k on a gaming desktop instead...and you must know that all laptops will play games...depends on the game...if hes a casual gamer he'll be fine with any laptop in the 35k range ..if hes a crazy gamer than a 60k laptop wil also be less..
That being said, here are a few options:
Excellent laptop, value for money, very light gaming:

Another excellent laptop, good for casual gaming..some 60k gaming laptops have same configuration so very good choice:
http://www.flipkart.com/hp-pavilion-g6-2231tx-laptop-3rd-gen-ci3-4gb-500gb-win8-1gb-graph/p/itmdgebsywyztzem?pid=COMDGEBNYRWUNSHZ&ref=6b03abb7-021d-4657-b51d-278bdb97363e

good value for money gaming laptop:
http://www.flipkart.com/lenovo-ideapad-y500-59-346619-laptop-3rd-gen-ci7-8gb-1tb-win8-2gb-graph/p/itmdh2p7vnq2ym3x?pid=COMDH2P6HYV9FU92&ref=1d8ca144-ce8d-4e1d-a954-e6fe494f7188

personally i think the 37k laptop would be good..no need of so much spending for games..even i did engineering and that configuration would be more than enough...He can get a better laptop/PC after 4 years if he wants.

Most suitable laptop/laptop brand for a student/gamer?

Love'n'Hat

First of all, I really don't know much about laptops. I've been thinking about buying a new one for quite a while and obviously want to get a good deal for my money. I'm a student, so MS Word, Excel, etc are necessities along with a good RAM. I'm also a gamer, not hardcore enough to crave for Alienware but I want a decent graphics card and HD screen. I prefer Windows over Macs, but tbh that's not my biggest concern.

Also I wasn't sure if I wanted a laptop or a desktop as desktops are much better, but I'm still contemplating on that. Please let me know about any recommendations you have, either a certain laptop, a brand or a desktop, I'd greatly appreciate the help. I apologise for being a little vague too, I know just enough about PC's to get me through life. >_>
@Shredder7; Oh right, the budget. I guess I'm willing to spend around £800 on the laptop, £900 if I'm pushing it. MS 2010 and decent Security will probably cost me another £100 at least, so I'd prefer the laptop/desktop to not go over £1000. Laptops are what I'm mainly focusing on though. I think £800 is around $1200?

Laptop For a Student/Writer/Gamer???

Patrick B

Hello,

I'm a student who needs a Laptop. What i'm looking for is something fast, and with lots of space. This is what I will do with it, I hope it can narrow down any Laptops you might think of listing:

-Microsoft office
-A game the size of World of Warcraft
-Good graphics for movies I might watch
-music: room for lots of Music

These are most of the things i'll be using the Laptop for, what can any of you suggest that will fit the above listed software, and functions, with still enough room to spare for speed. Please let me know what is good. Price range i'm lookin at is abour $500-$800

Please help, Thanks.

Dell Inspiron 1525, or an HP...which is better?

Answer
Virtually any laptop in your price range will fit your needs. World of Warcraft has very modest system requirements... almost anything built today can handle it. You might want a bigger screen size with higher resolution to get more of your WoW UI to fit on your screen. I remember it being VERY painful playing on a 1024 x 768 resolution while raiding in Molten Core.

I think you should head to your local Best Buy and just look around at what they offer because your decision appears to be more of a matter of style (color, how thick is it), weight, size, and "extras". "Extras" include webcam, how the speakers sound, the touchpad, keyboard feel and battery life. Those little things will make a big impact on whether or not you'll like your laptop or not.

Get a decent HD as they aren't that much more to upgrade. 7200 RPM is better for those load-times between WoW zones (it's heavily dependent on disk I/O rate)

Happy hunting!
